Jimmy Randolph is very tasteful on his dobro. Randy Parker is a gifted mandolin player, and there is no better bass player in the bluegrass business then Mike Taggert. | Great White Possum String Company | Kansas City, Missouri | ||
![]() |
The Great White Possum
String Company was formed in 1975, when 5 musicians who frequented
weekly jam sessions at a Kansas City music store decided to form a
band. The name of the music store was the Possum Trot Pickin' Parlor,
to which the band's name can be attributed. In 2005, the band reunited
for an anniversary jam session. Although the fingers didn't move as
fast and the lyrics didn't come to mind as quickly, the boys still
enjoyed playing together. They recorded a new CD, "On The Road Again",
added a mandolin player to the band, and hit the road in support of the
CD. Don Hupp, Mark Pursell, Gary Gray, Bill Norton, and Mike Weaver Visit their website: www.greatwhitepossum.com |

Lonesome Road Band | Horse Shoe, North Carolina |
||
![]() |
"Great acoustic music" is
the statement that best describes the music of The Lonesome Road Band.
Using the traditional tools of bluegrass in creating their music, to
categorize them strictly as bluegrass would be a misrepresentation.
Their repertoire consists of everything from Bill Monroe's "My Sweet
Blue Eyed Darlin'" to the Moody Blues' "Nights In White Satin". The
group's haunting, bluegrass inspired harmonies stir the souls of even
the most mundane listeners. Their approach to the music they perform is
undeniably top shelf. The vocals are up front with lead and supporting
harmonies weaving effortlessly. Their vocals blend so well that it is
difficult to tell who is singing each part.

| The Petersen Family | Branson, Missouri | ||

The signature sound of the
band is the vocal harmonies of sisters Katie (18) and Ellen (16) along
with their brother Matthew (14). Karen (39 again) provides background
vocals and plays mandolin while dad Jon alternates bass and guitar and
tells humorous (??) stories between songs or when the banjo needs
tuning. Katie leads the band musically and plays a very lively fiddle
while Ellen drives the band with her one-of-a-kind Hot Pink Banjo.
Matthew plays a great lead guitar and enjoys being creative (i.e.
clowning around) while playing the upright bass. The sweetheart of the
family, young Julianne (7), captures the hearts of audiences with her
solo vocals and is learning fiddle from her older sister and how to tell
jokes from her dad. They have performed many engagements at bluegrass
festivals, Silver Dollar City, churches, theaters, benefits and
competitions entertaining thousands in the South and Midwest. Visit their website: www.petersenfamilyband.com |
